The importance of tracking your weight

“If you don’t know where you have come from - how will you ever how well you've done”

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRACKING YOUR WEIGHT

HOW DID I GET SO FAT?

Have you noticed that you do not become fat overnight. It’s not like one day you look in the mirror and look great and then the next day you look in the mirror and you are considerably overweight!

Even our family, who we see daily, do not notice. On the other hand, if we see a friend after some time, they will notice immediately.

When you do eventually notice how overweight you have become you will find that the greater the weight gain, the harder it is to get rid of. You want it off as fast as possible and then go to all kinds of extremes. You cut out all your favourite foods, starve yourself, drink only soup, goto painful bootcamps etc.

How do most of these extreme diets make you feel? MISERABLE. But you do it because you want to get back to where you used to be. All these thoughts go through your mind.

“How did I let myself go?”

“I wish I was the same as before”

“I hate this diet”

THIS ONE THING WILL KEEP YOU TRIM

One simple thing that you can do every week will help you so much.

We all have a bank account and we know how much we get paid and much we can spend. If we spend more than we earn then we end up with problems. If we save even the smallest amount every week then over time, this builds up to a nice amount.

If we just spend, spend, spend without regularly checking our balance, then it won’t be too long before we end up in trouble. We do it for too long, then our problems maybe so big that we have bailiffs at our door.

This is exactly the same with our weight. So many health issues are related to weight, so even for healths sake, we must monitor our weight and not just live blind to it, otherwise IT WILL creep up.

If your weight 6 months ago was 60kgs (and you were very happy at this weight) and your weight today is 72kgs (which you probably not very happy about) then that’s a 12kg increase.

HOW HARD WILL IT BE TO LOSE 12KGS?

It could take months of watching your diet and lots of exercise. Lots of commitment and persistence. When it gets this hard, it’s also very easy to give up and say “I’m never going to lose this weight”

On the other hand, if your weight was 60kgs last week and this week, it was increased to 60.50kgs, then you have only put on a small amount of weight.

HOW EASY WILL IT BE TO LOSE 1/2KG?

Very easily. Maybe add a bit of extra exercise this week or cut down a couple of snacks. When it’s this easy, you won’t give up.

Now, if you feel you are overweight, you may not want to jump on the scales, for fear of what you will see. You maybe burying your head in the sand. You know you are overweight, so you wait till you have lost weight before getting on the scales. This is such a massive mistake. It’s like when people say, I’ll start exercise when I get a bit fitter. Or setting out on a journey without a route.

If you just arrive at a weight, without knowing where you started, how do you know how well you have done? How do you know how effective what you are doing has been?

I’M SCARED TO GET ON THE SCALES

I understand that after you have gained a lot of weight, getting back on the scales might be daunting but you absolutely need that start weight, if you really want to get the weight down again. It will be dificult at first, but I promise you that it will be the most motivating factor in the future.

By having this, you can start to track your progress. If you lose half a kg this week, and you do the same eating and exercise next week and you lose another half a kg, then you have an idea how long it will take you to lose 10kgs. If you want to lose more, then you know you will have to do more. If you find whatever you are doing too hard, then you can ease back, but know it will maybe take you a little longer.

But at least you will know.

I DON’T WANT TO BE OBSESSED WITH MY WEIGHT

Once you understand that you will only be obsessing with your health, then you will not look at it as an obsession. It’s just a way to keep track of your health.

It will take less than a minute to do.

If you increase your weight a little, it will take very little effort to get back on track.

You won’t need to go on really restrictive diet plans.

You won’t need to go on hard exercise programs or hire expensive PT’s.

BLAZEFIT MAKES IT EASY FOR YOU

At BlazeFit, we understand the benefits of tracking your weight regular. You can add your weight once a week and over time you will a graph of your weight changes.

If it goes up a little every week, soon you will visually see this, giving you an opportunity to do something about it, while it is only a small increase.

We recommend that you weigh yourself once a week at the same time and in the same clothes. Check that your scales are on a straight hard surface and always place in same position.

With regular exercise, we recommend half hour a day as a minimum, and healthy eating habits (most of the week as it’s good to eat what you want on the weekends) you will keep your weight steady. If it goes up a little, then do an extra class or cut out bread for few days. It really is that simple.
