TURMERIC EXPRESSO SHOT

At BlazeFit we take a holistic approach to health and fitness. We use as many opportunities to live a long but healthy life with fitter, more flexible bodies.

This is one of the reasons why we promote Turmeric.

We only promote supplements that we use and feel the benefits from. In fact, there are only 4 supplements that we use consistently, all of which are natural and inexpensive.

There so many benefits of turmeric and there are many in depth articles on the internet but turmeric has been used for thousands of years, with its origins tracing back over 4,000 years to India, where it was used in traditional medicine (Ayurveda) and as a spice. It played a significant role in ancient Indian culture, particularly in religious rituals, food preparation, and medicine.

Turmeric is valued for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, and it is used to treat a wide range of ailments such as skin disorders, digestive issues, and joint pain. All of these ailments get worse as we get older.

In recent decades, modern scientific research has explored the health benefits of turmeric, particularly curcumin, its active compound, which has contributed to a renewed global interest in its medicinal use.

Turmeric can be taken in a number of ways.

As a spice, it can be added to food, although some of the benefits of turmeric, particularly its main active compound, curcumin, can decline with prolonged cooking, especially at high temperatures.

It can be taken as capsules or tablets.

Turmeric can be added to smoothies.

Fresh turmeric root can grated be used in salads, soups or juiced.

Turmeric essential oil can be taken in very small doses or applied topically, diluted with a carrier oil, for therapeutic purposes.

Turmeric Tea - Mix turmeric powder with milk (or plant-based milk), a pinch of black pepper (to improve absorption), and sweeteners like honey. This warm drink is soothing and popular for its anti-inflammatory benefits.

All of these are beneficial, some more than others.

I personally prefer a turmeric expresso shot and this is how I make it.

TURMERIC EXPRESSO RECIPE

Step 1 - Use a small expresso cup and put in a small teaspoon of turmeric powder. There are so many choices to buy turmeric powder from expensive organic packs to general turmeric spice from local shops. I just buy my turmeric powder from Amazon.

Step 2 - Put in a small teaspoon of your favourite coffee.

Step 3 - As I like my drinks with some sweetness, I add a sweetener. I know there are pro’s and con’s for these, but I’ve been using sweetener for years. I don’t use sugar or honey or syrups etc as they all add calories. If you are not watching calories, then you can add anything.

Step 4 - Add hot water. I know some of you coffee experts will say not to use boiling hot water, so it’s upto you if you want to let the water cool a little. I don’t, and find the coffee fine.

Step 5 - Mix well and enjoy.

As turmeric can be quite staining, I use a straw. I know that’s a weird way to drink coffee, but I’d rather that, than have my teeth stain over time.

I drink my turmeric expresso shot in the morning after my half hour BlazeFit workout. It’s the perfect way to start the day.

How does it taste?

Deliscious. Well, it is an aquired taste and trust me, after a while, you will begin to enjoy it. It almosts tastes of a small latte. The turmeric gives it a creamy texture. It does have a little spice kick but I always think of the benefit it will have as opposed to the taste. As it is a shot, it will be finished quick.

Don't let the thought of how it may taste stop you from trying it. Be consistent with it on days that you exercise, as it will help with inflammation. BlazeFit run online sessions Monday to Friday, so we recommend that you have your turmeric expresso shot every weekday. Don't have it on weekends. After a while, you will miss it on weekends and look forward to it on Monday.
