Military/SAS

This started over 20 years ago, when I was teaching martial arts. The clientele being mainly male orientated. This issue was that many of the partners of the practicing martial artists were getting frustrated by how much time their partners were spending at martial arts.

At the time the martial arts were being taught by the world famous Shaolin Monks from China. They were teaching a lot of health developing routines called Shaolin Stretch and Stamina.

I started a class for the partners of the martial artists at the same time as their classes and the 1st general fitness class was started. The class became incredibly successful due to the fact of it being very effective for health and weight loss but also in the fun nature of its delivery. Soon word spread and members of the general public started to join. One day, I overheard somebody say that they loved the SAS sessions. SAS being Stretch and Stamina and the name stuck. Playing on the military SAS - who dares wins, this name continues till present day.

Over the years, I expanded the content to include, boxing, skipping, HIIT, step and more. In fact, this is the reason SAS became so popular. Every 10 weeks, I would give everyone a guilt free week off and then come back with a new routine.

They say that variety is the spice of life... Well variety became the success of SAS.

Classes grew in Birmingham and Leicester with many at full capacity.

March 2020 saw everything come to an abrupt end. For nearly 4 years I did not do any face to face classes. I grew my online business but no face to face.

I had many requests to start up again and after much deliberation, I decided to do a test class in Leicester at the end of 2023. I started what I called a Military Workout, one day a week. Within a few weeks the classes were pre booked for weeks at a time. I felt so blessed to see many people who had trained with me return. In January 2024, I added a second day in the week and again, almost the whole 10 week block was pre booked.

My Birmingham group, the original SAS group noticed the posts and I started getting requests for me to do sessions there. This was not easy as at the time I used to live in Birmingham and now I’m in Leicester. It meant an hours journey. Well, I gave in after seeing the health benefits the Leicester group was enjoying and in July 2024 I do a reunion SAS class in Birmingham and what an amazing turnout. It turned out to be very emotional as many of these people had SAS and everyone within the group as a main core of their lives. It gave their health and fitness a direction. After many years of no classes, it was visible that no exercise and of for some, the lack of social involvement, had taken its toll.

My face to face classes now run every week in Leicester and once every 2 weeks in Birmingham.

It’s a family unit where everyone cares. Anybody new will be made welcome straight away. Many of the group started when they were in their 20’s... Now many are in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. It’s like a second chance.
